The Latino Court Officers Society is giving back to lift up the communities in the Bronx and Brooklyn.
The organization was founded in 2017 to unite people and provide support to the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
“The strength and the energy just comes from the people that we serve, knowing that we're helping them out," said Jessica Hernandez, president of the Latino Court Officers Society. “We are a huge court family, and every time we do something together and we see how great our projects turn out, it helps bring us together."
They host annual holiday toy drives in Brooklyn and even held a prom dress giveaway in the Bronx. They also take pride in making sure that fun is a top priority – from their summer barbecues to marching with volunteers in the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
“Whenever we have someone that wants to join our society, we embrace them with open arms,” said Hernandez. “Family, friends, food, music, salsa - that's what our heritage is about."
