The Las Vegas Sands Casino is moving forward with its Coliseum plans despite a legal battle.
The Hempstead Town Board voted to lead a multistep process known as the State Environmental Quality Review Act.
This will determine the development’s impacts.
Town leaders also voted to acknowledge an environmental review drafted by the Sands, scheduled public comment sessions and hired an attorney to handle Sands' request for zoning changes.
As News 12 has reported, a state appeals judge put a temporary hold last month on a lower court’s decision to void a 99-year lease agreement. The agreement would allow Las Vegas Sands to develop the $4 billion project.
