The hit-and-run driver who critically injured a West Islip teen has been sentenced to up to three years in prison.
Kristofer Busching hit Ryan McCarthy, 16, on Udall Road last New Year's Eve and left him in the street. Busching pleaded guilty.
Prosecutors wanted Busching to receive seven years, but the judge sentenced him to up to three years.
The mother of the teen pleaded to the courts today for tougher sentencing and said her son has brain injuries.
District Attorney Tom Spota has been fighting for tougher sentences for drivers who leave the scene.
A judge also issued an order of protection to keep Busching away from McCarthy until 2025.
