Police have arrested two Kings Park employees Thursday in connection with a defensive driving course scam.
Police say security guard Anthony Matyszczyk and gym teacher Charles Alben charged $50 to take a defensive driving course that gives reductions on auto insurance and reduces points on licenses. Authorities say the pair issued certificates of completion to many who did not attend the class, including several who were also employed at Kings Park High School.
Authorities say Matyszczyk has issued more than 7,700 certificates since 1997, but they do not know how many of them were to no-shows. Both men are being charged with multiple counts of filing a false instrument and possession of a forged instrument. Each faces one and a third to four years in prison for each count.
