A Nesconset man is seeking a kidney donor to help treat his kidney disease.

Kevin Schnurr, 27, is fighting a rare, hereditary degenerative kidney disease called Alport Syndrome.

Both of Schnurr's kidneys have failed. He is on the national donor waiting list, but it could take years before he gets a kidney, so he's trying to find a living person to donate one.

Schnurr says as of last week there were 98,000 people in need of a kidney on the donor waiting list.

Schnurr is trying to raise awareness and money for research by doing a 5K this weekend.
