Twenty lucky dogs flew halfway across the country to a Long Island shelter after a rescue mission.
Those pooches are now up for adoption at the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton.
They came from rural areas of Texas where shelters are not in good conditions for the canines.
There aren't many adoptions in that area, so a lot of the dogs don't find homes.
The pups were flown in from Texas last week, were put in a van from LaGuardia Airport to Calverton.
They then got checked medically.
Some were emaciated or needed some grooming, but the dogs are now in good shape after the 1,600-mile trip.
"They're all fun-loving animals looking for their forever home - probably a little chilly - they came from Texas- I'm sure they're a little cold but they all have sweaters on," says Jenn Hill, a veterinary technician. "We take good care of them here at Kent."
The dogs will be spayed or neutered before they are up for adoption.
The nonprofit has been operating for more than 50 years and relies on donations to cover some of the costs.
Most of all, they hope all of the dogs will find good homes.
"I really believe that they know they're rescued - they seem so happy," says Kent Animal Shelter Director Pam Green. "No matter what they've been through, they're so resilient and loving. That's what's great about animals. It's unconditional love."
