A jury will return to deliberations Wednesday in the trial of a Brentwood man accused of killing the mother of his children.
Bryan Bethea, the father of Shantel Scott's three children, is on trial for manslaughter. Prosecutors say he grabbed her and threw her to the ground while at a party last year at Scott's home in Central Islip. They say the incident caused a severe head injury that led to her death.
Defense attorneys claim it wasn't Bethea who caused the fatal injuries. They say she had been critically injured in a fight with two other women who were at the party.
In court, the jury requested read-backs of testimony from a witness at the party and from the medical examiner. Though some of the testimony was hard to hear again, Shantel's family said they are trying to stay strong.
"I'm hopeful the jury is going to come back with the correct verdict, so we are just going to keep our faith and keep pushing on," said Alia Wilson, Shantel's sister.
