Two Democratic Jewish candidates in Nassau County said political mailers sent out by Republicans are antisemitic.
Leg. Joshua Lafazan, who is running for reelection, said the image used in a “negative” advertisement is “indefensible.”
He pointed out the “enlarging” of his nose, the “elongating and yellowing” of his teeth and the plume of smoke to make the symbol of horns above his head, along with him holding fistfuls of cash.
Jon Kaiman, who’s a deputy county executive under County Executive Steve Bellone in Suffolk, is running for North Hempstead Town supervisor. A mailer depicted him holding lots of cash, stating “HIGH TAXES & CORRUPTION…with JON KAIMAN we get BOTH!”
Gov. Hochul addresses antisemitism in New York:
Woodbury resident Israel Weisfelner received one of the mailers and said it made him sick to his stomach. He said his parents survived WWII concentration camps.
In a statement, the Nassau County Republican Committee said: “Republican mailers that accurately illustrate the corruption and tax hikes of candidates for public office at the behest of partisan interests while ignoring blatantly antisemitic Facebook posts and activities by Democrat candidates, is nothing short of disgraceful.
The Town of Oyster Bay Democrat Committee’s Facebook post, which depicts an image of a pig with a swastika on its hind quarters as an emblem of the Republican Party This is an unmitigated trope of “Jew-hatred” on steroids.
Further, Jon Kaiman's association with Yale College Democrats, who are seen in a Facebook post, walking door-to-door with him presents serious questions on the issue of anti-Semitism. Indeed, Democrats laud the group in a post. GreatNeckAlerts observes that Yale College Democrats adopted a letter condemning Israel and calling it an apartheid state. Finally, Weihua Yan's recently admitted that he was forced to release his campaign manager in response to Facebook posts by the member of his campaign team, which denegrated the State of Israel.
The Republican Party has no knowledge of the religion that the candidates in question observe. Nor do we associate illustrations of greedy and corrupt politicians holding money with any ethnic group, race or religion. Shame on the Democrat Party if it makes any such association. "
