Monday is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day, which recognizes an invention that was created in New Jersey.
Alfred Fielding, a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, and Marc Chavanne worked together to create wallpaper in a Hawthorne garage in 1957.
The engineers experimented with trapping air between sheets of plastic. However, their plans to sell their invention as wallpaper never followed through.
Instead, the duo found a new use for their product as protective packaging, or what we now know as bubble wrap.
