Police arrested a 33-year-old jail inmate from Central Islip for smuggling drugs in his rectum Wednesday.
Police say Bruce Maldonado attempted to smuggle 30 bags of heroin and balloons filled with marijuana, tobacco, rolling papers and matches into the jail with intent to distribute them to other prisoners. Correction officers say they acted on a tip that Maldonado was going to attempt to distribute the drugs for a profit.
Police say Maldonado's stash has a street value of about $500, but added that he would have earned much more for the drugs inside the prison. Maldonado, already in custody for selling drugs, is now facing felony charges of Tampering with Physical Evidence and Promoting Prison Contraband.
