A Long Island FedEx driver went out of his way to make sure that a lost therapy dog was delivered back home.
In April, Michael DeMonaco was on his regular delivery route in Bay Shore when he came across an 8-year-old mutt named Brody wandering along a busy street.
"I thought he was going to bite me, but he ended up being friendly," DeMonaco says. "I opened the door of my truck and he jumped right in."
The pup had his owner - David Jordan's - phone number on his tag so he called him.
Jordan works as a cook in a local school and had just started work when he got the call.
He told DeMonaco to go to his house, type in the code and let Brody in.
Jordan suffers from anxiety and Brody is a certified therapy dog who helps him stay calm.
He says he was worried what could have happened to his best, furry friend if DeMonaco did not save him.
"It's a very busy street, I was petrified," Jordan says.
Jordan went on Facebook and tried to find the hero delivery driver but couldn't.
Finally, Jordan and DeMonaco met on Thursday for the first time when they got a large package.
Jordan says he was happy to finally say thank you in person.
"It's a blessing because there aren't that many good people out there nowadays," Jordan says.
DeMonaco says he tries to be a good Samaritan along his route, and has also helped people whose cars have broken down.
