Police arrested a 32-year-old Islip Terrace woman for driving the wrong way down Sunrise Highway early Sunday.
Tow truck driver James Trost says he was working when he saw a car, driven by Elizabeth Perez, traveling east in the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway just after 4 a.m. He called police and turned his vehicle around to follow her in an attempt to warn other drivers.
Police caught up with Perez in a McDonald's parking lot, where they say she failed a sobriety test. Perez's two sons, ages 4 and 9, were in the backseat. Perez said she had left a relative's house but was unsure when she got on the highway. Perez's husband picked up the children after her arrest.
