The Suffolk District Attorney has seized Islip Town Supervisor Pete McGowan?s $1 million campaign account.
In addition to the campaign funds being seized, dozens of businesses that have dealt with McGowan?s campaign fund have been served subpoenas by the DA?s office. The subpoenas appear to be focusing on possible misuse of campaign money. A court order bars McGowan from touching any funds in the account.
The seizure of the campaign funds and subpoenas are part of a long-running investigation by the DA into political corruption in Suffolk County. A lawyer for McGowan says investigators will find no wrongdoing in the campaign account.
