The New York Islanders started training camp at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on Thursday.
It is their first camp under now head coach Lane Lambert, who was promoted in May after the firing of Barry Trotz.
Lambert, who has been with the team for four seasons, is tasked with getting the Isles back to the postseason after they missed the playoffs during the 2021-2022 season for the first time in four years.
"You don't take it for granted - when you are not in it and you watch from afar and on TV - it hurts," says Islanders forward Brock Nelson. "As a player you want to be in those moments and that's what you strive for - those opportunities and big stages. So, to not have that gave us extra motivation this season."
The Islanders will play the Rangers in their first preseason game on Monday. They will open the regular season on Oct. 8 at UBS Arena.
