Bo Horvat, known for scoring on the ice for the Islanders, scored big off the ice on Tuesday.
Horvat and his wife, Holly, handed out three free books to every student at Joseph A. McNeil Elementary school in Hempstead.
Horvat told News 12 he was thrilled that his gifts were more popular than he was.
“It's not about me,” he said. “It's about getting these kids some books and putting smiles on their faces and hopefully they are having a great time today."
The school library also got 50 new books during the visit.
The event was all part of the Islanders Children's Foundation’s celebration of National Reading Month.
