Island Harvest is putting out an urgent appeal for a different kind of donation this year.
The hunger relief organization is known for putting food on the table of Long Island homes. This year, Island Harvest is also helping deliver presents.
"We have some families who have never been able to provide Christmas gifts for their families because it's just too impossible of a decision on how they're going to be able to afford it," says Gianna Bottone, food drive coordinator for Island Harvest.
They are accepting donations of toys for the holiday season and received a big donation Friday from Ronkonkoma-based solar company Sun Nation.
The organizations hope that the toy donations along with food and other essential items will help as many children as possible to have a merry Christmas.
Island Harvest and its partner organizations also accept donations throughout the year.
