Intrepid Museum opens WWII exhibition with historical never-before seen artifacts and aircraft

The Intrepid Museum unveiled a new permanent exhibition with never-before-seen artifacts from World War II.
Visitors are greeted by a newly restored World War II FG-1D Corsair.
"The entire exhibition is all one family piece, everything comes together to compliment the next thing you encounter," said Museum's Aerospace Associate Curator Kate Good.
The 10,500-square-foot exhibition showcases items like mission patches, uniforms and recovered pieces from original aircrafts.
"The wings are folded so it introduces you to the space that you're standing in, which is the Hanger Deck where they had aircrafts restored or maintained during the war."
The exhibit brings history of the legendary aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid to life by also letting visitors hear firsthand stories from crew members themselves.
The Intrepid Museum's aircraft restoration manager handled the four-month restoration of the legendary fighter-bomber Corsair, "It was just a huge honor. This image has been used to sell things from blue jeans to coffee beans, it's just that recognizable."
Before the Corsair landed at The Intrepid Museum, it hung at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida for nearly four decades.
