Over 600 students from Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School in Port Washington walked out of class Thursday in wake of the school shooting in Texas.

The hundreds of students stood in silence at around 12 p.m. as two of their classmates, who organized the event, demanded more be done to combat gun violence.

Two students, who organized the event, spoke and said the event's purpose was to mourn the loss of the 19 students and two teachers killed in Texas on Tuesday, but also to protest for strict gun laws.

"I think that making it a nonpartisan issue and realizing that these are lives at stake--and our most vulnerable community members--I think calling attention to that is the number one thing that has to be done," sayd Gaia Dash, a junior at the school.

The walkout was nationwide and done in unison at noon to demand the government take action against gun violence.
