Lawmakers are calling attention to a dietary supplement being called "gas station heroin."

They say tianeptine has been linked to seizures, overdoses and deaths.

The Food and Drug Administration has previously warned the public about the side effects of tianeptine.

The National Institutes of Health says tianeptine is used in Europe to treat people for depression if they don't respond to other drugs. The U.S. bans its use for medical treatment.

Tianeptine can be found at gas stations and convenience stores. It is currently banned in nine states.
