A home invasion broke up a party in Smithtown early Saturday.

Police say five masked men, some armed with handguns, entered the basement apartment on Wildwood Lane through the unlocked front door. Police say the men ordered the people at the party onto the floor, where they were relieved of their wallets, purses and cell phones.

Police believe the suspects intended to rob the apartment during the party and may have some connection to the host, since the entrance to the apartment was in the rear of the house and not visible from the street. Police stress that this incident does not fit the pattern of any other recent robberies in Suffolk County.
