One Nassau County school will not have a varsity football team take the field for the next two school years.

Officials from Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville alerted parents and students of the suspension of their football program on Wednesday.

According to a letter from Principal Brian Colomban, the move was due to the sudden resignation of Varsity Head Coach, Cain Mack.

The newly-hired coach alerted administration that he would need to resign from the position effective immediately.

“This choice was not an easy one for him, and while it was not what we expected we respect his decision and wish him well moving forward,” Colomban said in the letter.

Athletic Director, Matthew Sloan, will begin to look for a new coach with plans to start a junior varsity team in the 2027-28 school year and then a varsity program in 2028-29.

The school will continue to offer football-specific training sessions in their weight room for those who wish to participate this fall.

“We are incredibly proud of our school and believe strongly that we are not defined by any one sport or any one program,” Colomban said.

“While the situation is disappointing, our main focus does not change: We are a Catholic school, based on a foundation of faith, academics, and student safety,” he continued.

Any school community member with athletic-specific questions can reach out to the athletic director, and all other questions can be directed to the principal or assistant principal.
