High school hockey rivals Syosset and Massapequa put their competition aside for a Saturday night charity event in memory of a late student.
Syosset and Massapequa faced off at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Rink to raise money for the Sabrina Navaretta Memorial Foundation.
The 19-year-old Syosset High School graduate died in a car accident earlier this year.
Her parents established the foundation in her memory to give scholarships to students and to donate to organizations that meant a lot to Sabrina.
"She was very inspirational. She had an infectious smile and extraordinary kindness and that's the motto for the foundation, that's her legacy," said John Navaretta, Sabrina's father.
The family chose to hold the event on Thanksgiving weekend knowing many of her classmates would be back in town for the holiday and they were right -- the arena was standing room only.
