Several high school students across Nassau County took part in a summit focused on segregation and racism on Long Island.
Emily Hernandez is a senior at Uniondale High School.
"Racism is very present in American society," explains Hernandez.
"There's shortage of African American male teachers, I want to see more role models," says Roosevelt High School senior Justin McDonald.
The student summit was organized by Erase Racism, an organization that deals with racial disparities in local housing and within Long Island schools.
"What it does is allow students to identify areas that they can work with their teachers and school leaders to shift some of those biases," says Erase Racism director Laura Harding.
