Family members swamped the United States Army Reserve Center in Uniondale Saturday as buses brought home 175 soldiers from Iraq.
Members of the Military Police spent more than a year in Iraq guarding prisoners and teaching Iraqis to do the same. After a year of worrying and waiting, Jennifer Doncer says she couldn't wait to greet her fiancé Sgt. Gerard Sweet from Garden City Park. The couple became engaged a week before Sweet left for training.
Many family members say the safe return of their loved ones left them overwhelmed by emotions. The soldiers say they are happy to be home and can?t wait to enjoy the simple things in life again.
