The Hempstead Lake Carousel is celebrating 100 years in operation inside Hempstead Lake State Park.
The wooden horses were hand carved by M.C. Sillian and sons between 1911 and 1916.
Multimillionaire August Heckscher donated the three-row carousel to the Long Island State Park Commission in 1931.
It has 36 horses along with chariot seating. They give about 200 rides a day in season, and 12,000 a year.
