Sunday marked a big day for a group of newly-minted health care professionals in Bridgeport.

The young workers received their Certified Nursing Assistant certificates through Danae's Training Center at a cap-and-gown ceremony.

The event took place at City Council Chambers, followed by a celebration at Seaside Park.

Patty Newton-Foster, owner of the company, said the graduates are entering a workforce amid a severe CNA shortage.

"When I lay my head on the pillow tonight, I am going to say to myself, 'job well done.' And I will say to myself, 'God, thank you for everything. Thank you for everything,'" she said.

City officials say there's a high demand for entry-level healthcare workers.
