The family of a 76-year-old West Babylon man who died after a hit-and run is planning to honor his life this week.

Police say around 2 p.m. last Saturday, Octavio Espinal was hit by a light-colored sedan while crossing the intersection of North Grove Street and Brooklyn Avenue in Freeport.

"My father was a hardworking man who went to work one day, and had his life taken by someone who had no heart," said Ivelisse Alberto, Epinal's daughter.

Now his family is remembering the impact he had on them.

"There wasn't a time when he wasn't around, making everyone happy," said Eliana Guelit, Espinal's granddaughter. "He was always a happy man. Always helping everybody and he worked until he couldn't."

To honor him, the family will be donating his organs.

"He was the type of person that would've taken out his heart and given it to anyone. That was him," Alberto said.

The family will host on Monday a walk of honor at Mount Sinai South Nassau to remember the legacy Octavio left behind.

"He is worthy of that and more," Alberto said. "He was always helping, and this is what he deserves because he didn't deserve to die this way."

Police ask anyone with information about crash to call 1-800-244-TIPS.
