Residents in and around Lordship should expect traffic delays over the next few weeks.

Town officials say part of Route 113 Main Street will be closed as crews install a cofferdam system to prevent intermittent flooding near Sikorsky Airport.

"I walk this road almost every day," Stratford's Sophia Aman says. "It gets really bad sometimes."

Residents trying to get to Lordship will have to use Access Road and Lordship Boulevard.

“Climate change and sea level rise, we see it happening right in front of our eyes here," State Rep. Joe Gresko says. "This is the first and most low-lying spot, and we’re going to have to fix it."

Stratford officials are hopeful the project will be completed by the end of the year, but in the meantime, they are asking the public to be patient as crews work to rebuild the road.

“We were able to successfully get the DOT to declare an emergency here," Rep. Gresko says. "They’re coming in, they’re not only fixing it temporarily, but they’re going to fix it long-term, so it might be a little bit of an inconvenience for a few weeks, but so be it."

Work was scheduled to begin Dec. 2, but was pushed back a few days due to materials arriving late, Gresko says.
