10-year old Brock Murphy plays for the St. James/Nesconset Bulls youth football team. Brock is a quarterback.

He's got a pretty good arm and won a championship two years ago. But he's never played on a true home field. But that changed a few weeks ago when the Town of Smithtown opened the Bulls' new turf field at Toner Park.
"That field is special, I'll say it a million times if I have to," said Brock.

The Bulls christened the field with a last second win over North Babylon. Brock believes there was magic in that new turf.

"We came out with the win on a strip fumble. It was loud," he said with a smile on his face.

Brock and his teammates couldn't stop talking about the beauty of the new field and how they now have a true "home field advantage" for the first time in league history. So, after winning the game he went home and sent a hand written letter to Town of Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim thanking him for allowing the field to be built and finding the money for it.

"It didn't just make my day, quite frankly it made my week," said Wehrheim, who's been the Supervisor since 2018.
Wehrheim said most of the letters he gets come from citizens who want to complain about something, and most are e-mails.

He said handwritten letters are rare these days. He appreciated Brock's note so much he shared the letter on Facebook and framed the actual letter and hung it in Town Hall for everyone to see.

Brock said he just wanted to do something nice and never expected Wehrheim to share it. He hopes it sends a message to everyone else in town.

"The motto is if someone does something good for you, you should do something good back," said Brock.
