Guide: Everything you need to know to visit the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has been a tradition for more than eight decades, lighting up Rockefeller Plaza each holiday season. 
This year is no exception! Below you’ll find everything you need to know about visiting the tree:

WHERE IS THE TREE FROM?

The 2022 tree is from Queensbury, New York. It arrived at Rockefeller Center on Nov. 12.

MORE TREE DETAILS:

This year’s tree is a 82 foot tall Norway Spruce, 50 feet wide and weighs 14 tons. And it’s approximately 85 to 90 years old. The tree has more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights on approximately 5 miles of wire. The three dimensional Swarovski star weighs approximately 900 pounds and features 70 spikes covered in 3 million crystals.

HOW LONG WILL THE TREE BE ON DISPLAY?

There isn’t a specific date yet, but in general the tree can be viewed through early to mid-January. 

WHERE IS THE TREE LOCATED?

Rockefeller Center Plaza on 49th Street between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue.

WHAT ARE THE VISITING HOURS?

The tree is lit daily from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. On Christmas Day, the tree is lit for 24 hours, and on New Year’s Eve it is lit from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

HOW CAN I GET THERE?

HISTORY OF THE TREE:

In December 1931, workers at Rockefeller Center pooled their money together to buy a Christmas tree. The men decorated the 20-foot high balsam fir with handmade garlands made by their families. Click here for more on the history of the tree.
