A small business owner in Greenwood is making a name for himself customizing keepsakes with other people’s names.

Barney Lopilato is known as the “Blanket Boss.” His business on Windermere Avenue is coined after his nickname.

“A lot of people come in with their one-of-a-kind item. We don’t shy away from anything,” says Lopilato.

Lopilato is a longtime Greenwood Lake resident and has been in business for 20 years. He makes more than blankets at his shop.

“Unique names, like to order our personalized baby hats,” Lopilato says.

Fabric orders, large or small, are made in sewing machines and looms at Lopilato’s shop, including customized shirts, sweatshirts, hats and blankets.

Lopilato says his favorite orders are ones that are special, like military keepsakes.

“They come in and maybe want to reproduce some of the old patches they had,” he says.
