Great Neck resident Weihua Yan is hoping to represent District 10 in the Nassau County Legislature.

He says he wants more Asian American to live and thrive in the area.

"I want to give other people the opportunity, give back to my community," Yan says.

He first came to the United States in 1987 as an exchange student.

Yan eventually got his bachelor's and master's degrees before starting multiple software businesses, including Diaper.com, which he sold to Amazon.

He says in recent years, not all Asian Americans have been welcomed the way he was in the United States.

"Asian Americans have been attacked verbally and sometimes violently," Yan says.

He says that is a reason why he wants to be in public office.

Mazi Pilip is the incumbent legislator for Nassau District 10. County records show she is seeking reelection.
