Amityville church worshippers grieved Sunday after a three-car crash claimed the lives of the wife and grandson of a popular gospel singer from Roosevelt and critically injured the vocalist.
The accident happened Friday in Pennsylvania. Rev. Timothy Wright, known nationally as the Godfather of Gospel, was returning from a church conference with his family when police say a wrong-way driver slammed into his car on Interstate 80.
Wright?s 58-year-old wife Betty and 14-year-old grandson D.J. were killed. A moment of silence was held at Hollywood Baptist Cathedral in Amityville, where a number of his close friends and associates worship.
Wright has released more than a dozen recordings. He is the pastor at Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn.
Police says the wrong-way driver, 44-year-old John Pick, of Lewisburg, Penn., also died when he struck Wright's car. A passenger in a third vehicle that hit the Wrights from behind is hospitalized in fair condition.
