Each person generates about 4.5 pounds of garbage each day. Recycling is one way we can really reduce the amount of garbage that we throw away.
According to Winters Bros. Waste Systems, nationwide, 34 percent of waste is recycled. But on Long Island, only 15 percent is recycled.
What should you recycle?
1 - Cardboard: This is one of the most important things to recycle. Especially because so many of us do online shopping. Boxes are recyclable, but packing material is not.
2 - Newspapers: Everything that comes in the newspaper, is something that can be recycled.
3 - Water and soda bottles: Clean them out, rinse them out and put them in the bin.
4 & 5 - Aluminum and tin cans: You don't have to remove the labels, but make sure to rinse them.
6 - Milk jug: Take the jugs and put them in the bin. It doesn't matter if it has the top or not.
