The I Love Long Island campaign is trying to stop groundwater pollution one lawn at a time.
Part of the program gets people to take the pledge to cut out all chemical pesticides and high nitrogen fertilizers from their lawns.
Experts suggest to use lawn clippings to feed their lawns, keep grass at about 3 inches long and cut back on watering.
Pollution is another problem making its way into our water. Garbage - like cans, bottles, cups and bags - line up Long Island creeks and rivers.
The I Love Long Island group has also started the "Greek Defender Program." They're hoping, community creek-cleanups will lead to better water for the bays.
