Gov. Kathy Hochul was on Long Island Tuesday to tout lower crime numbers across Nassau and Suffolk counties, but she also announced $1.1 million in funding for the Glen Cove Police Department.
That money, according to the department, will be used to purchase body cameras, which its officers do not currently have. It also plans to purchase license plate readers, more surveillance cameras and possibly, a drone.
It is one of 39 police departments and sheriff’s offices on Long Island set to receive one-time capital funding from the state for the purposes of improving technology used by law enforcement.
