A gas explosion sparked a fire at a Glen Head home containing multiple apartment units, Nassau County police said.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said 50 firefighters from at least seven departments rushed to 528 Cedar Swamp Road around 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Their efforts took place during the height of yesterday's storm, when resources were thin as first responders were spread throughout the area dealing with flooding.
Officials said the fire caused significant damage to the two-and-a-half-story home containing three apartments. The tenant was not home in the unit where the fire started, and all other residents were able to evacuate safely.
No injuries were reported, according to county fire officials.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 45 minutes.
The Glenwood Fire Department was assisted by the Roslyn, Sea Cliff, Glen Cove, East Norwich, Locust Valley, and Oyster Bay fire departments.
The fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the Nassau County Police Arson/Bomb Squad.
