The Flame Violet, known formally as Episcia Cupreata, is a tropical plant part of the Gesneriaceae family, which is the same family as African Violets. These plants are known for their fuzzy, colorful foliage and small, tubular flowers that can come in shades of red, orange, pink, and yellow. Unlike African Violets, these plants will hang from their containers and produce "plantlets" that can be cut off and placed in a container to share with friends (or have more for yourself!)
Care tips:
- Light: Flame violets prefer bright, indirect light. A north window would be perfect.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Like African Violets, Flame Violets don't like to have wet leaves. Fast draining soil will help prevent overwatering.
- Humidity: Flame Violets thrive in high humidity. In a home this is your bathroom or kitchen. Keep away from heaters.
- Temperature: They prefer warm temperatures, ideally between 65-75°F (18-24°C).
