A final farewell was held today for a fallen Sept. 11 first responder from Massapequa Park.
Family and friends gathered this morning to remember Charles Afanasewicz.
The Vietnam War veteran served as a sergeant in the NYPD's Harbor Unit for 40 years.
Afanasewicz bravely helped victims evacuate from lower Manhattan on Sept. 11 in what became known as the 9/11 boat lift.
Afanasewicz died on July 4 from cancer.
His funeral was held at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa.
