Loved ones gathered this morning to remember the Long Island father killed in a Poughkeepsie hotel lobby during Marist College’s family weekend.
A funeral Mass was held for Paul Kutz at St. Anthony of Padua Church in East Northport.
Kutz, 53, leaves behind his wife and three children. He was a certified public accountant in Great Neck.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in his honor to Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Huntington.
News 12 reported that Kutz was fatally struck by stray bullets when the two men allegedly opened fire inside the Courtyard Marriott on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 2.
Authorities say Roy Johnson Jr. and Devin Taylor were arguing and trying to shoot each other when Kutz was struck. They added the incident was unprovoked.
According to court documents, Johnson, 35, faces second-degree murder for intentionally discharging his gun and having a loaded semi-automatic 9 mm gun. Taylor, 26 faces a pair of weapons charges for allegedly having a P-22 and an A-R style rifle that had a collapsible stock but no serial number.
