History was made in Freeport Wednesday night.Democrat Andrew Hardwick was elected as the village's first African-American mayor. Hardwick is also the first Democrat elected to the post in almost 50 years.Hardwick defeated incumbent William Glacken. Glacken has been Freeport's mayor since 1997.The race was decided by 445 votes.
