Fourth of July fireworks display at Jones Beach canceled
This year's Fourth of July fireworks display at Jones Beach has been canceled due to crowd concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic.
A message about the cancellation was posted on the state Parks Department website for Jones Beach.
"Due to social distancing measures in place and the large crowds the event typically attracts, it is not feasible to hold the Fourth of July Fireworks display this summer. We look forward to resuming the event next year," the message reads.
The beach has been open with limited parking capacity to ensure social distancing. According to the website, Jones Beach Field 2 and Field 6 were filled to capacity by Saturday afternoon and were closed to incoming visitors and traffic.
It comes after this year's Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach was canceled and was instead head virtually this year.
