The founder of Island Harvest Linda Breitstone has died, according to the food bank.
The nonprofit says Breitstone died on July 16 following a brief battle with cancer.
The Rockville Centre woman started Island Harvest in 1992 after learning many stores and restaurants threw out unused food.
Since then, Island Harvest has distributed millions of meals across Long Island.
Breitstone was 73 years old.
