A former state auditor admitted to stealing more than $400,000 of taxpayer money from one Orange County community.

Prosecutors say 41-year-old Tobias Otieno was assigned to audit the Town of Wallkill four years ago.

Instead, Otieno transferred money from the town’s bank accounts to his personal business accounts.

The Orange County District Attorney says Otieno pled guilty in court on Tuesday.

He faces 12-years in state prison when he’s sentenced in June.
