Former Malverne FD chief, treasurer accused of stealing over $30,000 from department

Prosecutors say Richard Bopp wrote checks to himself from the Malverne Fire Department's bank account. News 12 is told he also used the department's credit card to withdraw cash at casinos.

The former Malverne fire chief is accused of stealing over $30,000 from the department.

Prosecutors say Richard Bopp wrote checks to himself from the Malverne Fire Department's bank account. News 12 is told he also used the department's credit card to withdraw cash at casinos.

Bopp was the treasurer for the department when the crime allegedly happened.

If convicted, Bopp faces up to seven years in prison.
