Advocates and homeowners facing foreclosure rallied in Hempstead today to demand their piece of New York's $5.1 billion settlement with banks over the housing crisis.
"Big banks cheated and devastated my communities. Gov. Cuomo, don't cheat our communities anymore," said Phyllis Pruitt, of New York Communities for Change.
The attorney general has already allotted $3 billion to go toward mortgage help programs, but homeowners like Charles Polydore are wondering why they haven't seen a dime of it.
"It hurts," says Polydore. "I feel betrayed by the system, by the governor, by politicians."
News 12 Long Island reached out to the governor's office to ask when mortgage assistance will be available to Long Islanders, but has not heard back.
