Police in Florham Park are cracking down on drivers who fail to clear snow off their vehicles following the recent blizzard.

Officials say officers ticketed multiple drivers Tuesday alone for failing to properly remove snow, particularly from the roofs of their cars. According to police, 10 summonses were issued Tuesday, with one additional ticket issued Wednesday morning.

Police warn that snow and ice left on vehicles can pose serious dangers to other drivers.

“People can get hurt and people can die, and no one wants that on their conscience because people were too lazy to clean off their car,” said Florham Park Police Capt. Brian Ford.

Ford says many drivers clear only a small portion of their windshields, leaving snow on the roof and sides of the vehicle.

“You can’t see a pedestrian or another car coming from your side if you can’t see out the side of your car. It’s extremely irresponsible and dangerous, he said.

Police say the roof is the most commonly neglected area and often the most dangerous.

If caught driving with snow still on a vehicle, drivers could face fines ranging from $25 to $75, along with a mandatory court appearance.
