Parents and students were on edge Friday when a former student of Floral Park Memorial High School brought a toy gun to an alumni breakfast.
News 12 is told that an alumnus showed up to the school wearing an auxiliary police uniform with a toy gun.
The principal says school security stopped the individual and that "the Floral Park Police Department were summoned out of an abundance of caution. They took this individual menacing or threatening to any school personnel or students."
Parents say they can't understand what the individual was thinking, but like that the school acted quickly.
"A little bit of lack of common sense and lack of discretion," says Marc Blumenthal, of Floral Park. "I mean with school shootings and everything, even a toy gun would tend to make people nervous."
Nassau police told News 12 that the former student was not a member of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police.
