A McDonald's on Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush is carding people to enter. A sign outside reads "No one under the age of 20 is allowed in this restaurant without a parent and proper identification."
One customer who wanted to remain anonymous tells News 12 the area has had incidents of crime. "This is the junction. Everybody gets shot and robbed here," she said. The NYPD says there have been over two dozen 911 calls at that address this year alone. The McDonald's is blocks away from Brooklyn College and other public schools. Customers tell News 12 that kids can sometimes be disruptive in this location. News 12 also spoke with customers like 19-year-old Saniya Nightengale who says it takes away food options. "This is where kids go to get cheap meals and stuff, so it's going to be really hard to get a meal now," she said. “I think the best way to deter crime is to show enforcement on the premises, not come in with your mommy," said Leon Joseph, of Crown Heights. Customers say there normally is security, but News 12 didn't see any while we were there. News 12 reached out to McDonald's about the signs but had not heard back as of Sunday night.
