Vanessa Roberts Avery, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, has announced that she will step down from her position next week, ahead of the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Avery was appointed to the post in 2022 by President Joe Biden and made history as the first Black woman to lead the office in Connecticut.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D) expressed his hope to work with the incoming president to select Avery's successor.
